Farmers Receive Farm Equipment from Krishi Vigyan Kendra

On June 17, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Nagaland University in Zunheboto held an input distribution program as part of the tribal community development project in Lotsu village, Sanis block, and Renthan village, Bhandari block, both in Wokha district.

The program in Lotsu village began with an invocation by Rev. Zaremo Lotha, followed by a welcome address by R Thechamo Ovung, chairman of Lotsu village, and an introductory speech by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, principal scientist and project head, who gave an overview of the project and its importance in terms of higher crop and animal productivity.

Dr. Rakesh has highlighted crop selection, its importance in the current context, cluster approach, storage methods, and selection of proper farm equipment to reduce drudgery among agricultural communities, according to a KVK update.

Dr. Abemo, the registrar of Nagaland University, spoke at the event on the importance of such programs and urged farmers to adopt new technology in order to boost crop productivity and income. The registrar also congratulated farmers from six surrounding communities for their outstanding agricultural achievements.

VKPAS at Almora, Uttarakhand, provided the farmers with a variety of agriculture implements. It claimed that the equipment was light and easy to operate in hilly terrain. Farmers were also given storage bags and kits, as well as a knapsack sprayer, to avoid storage loss in paddy crops designed by IRRI.

Later that evening, an input distribution event was held in Renthan village, where the project's principal-in-charge discussed the program and the importance of farm tools in increasing productivity and lowering labor costs.

Tsemomo Humtsoe, the village chairman, thanked the KVK and Nagaland University team for providing agriculture equipment produced by VPKAS, Almora.
