Good News! Small Tea Growers and Horticulture Farmers Can Now Avail Benefits of PM Kisan Yojana

Good News - Small tea growers, horticulture farmers and farmers eligible to get land patta under the Forest Rights Act will also be eligible to get benefits of PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana

Good News for small tea growers and horticulture farmers in India. Now they can also avail the benefits under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, popularly known as PM-KISAN scheme.

As per latest reports, Assam Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday (21 July 2021) decided growers having annual patta (Eksonia Patta), Touji Patta, those cultivating in devottar land, small tea growers, horticulture farmers and farmers eligible to get land patta under the Forest Rights Act will also be eligible to get benefits of PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Agriculture Minister in the Lok Sabha said that the Government has to recover Rs 2,992.75 crore as of July 15 from over 42 lakh ineligible beneficiaries registered under the central scheme. And out of this Rs 554.01 crore, which is the highest is to be recovered from 8.35 lakh ineligible beneficiaries in Assam.

As many of you may already know that Assam is the largest producer of tea in the country and accounts for 52% of India’s tea. Around 49% of tea produced in the state is from the green tea leaves of small tea growers. The All Assam Small Tea Growers’ Association or AASTGA has estimated the number of small growers in Assam at 1.3 lakh, out of total 2.5 lakh across India.

PM Kisan 8th Installment Details

The Centre had disbursed over Rs. 19,000 crore to 90 million farmers as the 8th installment of PM Kisan on 14 May 2021. So far, the government has paid around Rs. 1.15 lakh crore.

Who is eligible for PM Kisan

Talking about Who is eligible for PM Kisan, let me tell you that under PM-Kisan Scheme, a beneficiary has to be “a farmer family comprising of husband, wife & small children who has cultivable land as per land records”. The non-farmers are automatically expelled.

Who is not eligible for PM Kisan

Now coming towards who is not eligible for the PM Kisanpeople who pay income tax or get pension above Rs. 10,000 after retiring from government service; former & current ministers; professionals & institutional land-owners are not eligible for PM-Kisan scheme, according to exclusion guidelines.
