How to Manage Crop Residue Using Modern Machines Discussed in Kisan Mela

On March 25, 2022, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (National Horticultural Research And Development Foundation), Ujwa organized a one-day Kisan Mela in the premises of Krishi Vigyan Kendra under the Government of India's project “In-situ management of crop residues”.

About 500 farmers, extension workers, entrepreneurs, government institutions, seed and fertilizer companies participated in this event. The fair was inaugurated by the chief guest Ashwini Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.

The program was presided over by Dr. Bijendra Singh, President, National Horticulture Research and Development Establishment, Delhi. Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Director, Indian Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, Pusa, New Delhi, Government of India and Pawan Kumar and Rahul Raj experts were present on this occasion as special guests.

At the inauguration of the program, Dr. P.K. Gupta, President, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Director, NHR. D.F., New Delhi, welcomed the honorable guests & gave detailed information about the purpose of organizing the Kisan Mela.

Inaugurating the fair, Ashwini Kumar Singh said, “the Government of India is running a scheme in four states viz., Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, in which farmers will be given 50 percent subsidy on purchasing machines and for setting up custom hiring centers, 80 percent grant is being given.

He said that through Krishi Vigyan Kendras, various awareness disseminating activities like Kisan Mela and demonstrations are being organized. Kumar provided detailed information about various schemes of the Government of India like soil health card, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, irrigation subsidy schemes, etc. And he said that farmers can increase their income manifolds by reducing their costs with the modern technology of farming.

Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh appreciated the initiative taken by Krishi Vigyan Kendra to make the National Capital Territory of Delhi free from environmental pollution and informed the farmers about the damage to the soil, environment, and health due to pollution caused by burning of paddy straw.

Indian Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources gave detailed information about genetic improvements of agriculture and conservation of different species of crops. In this sequence, the Bureau of Indian Standards, New Delhi gave detailed information about standardization, marking and quality certification of agricultural machines.
