UAV System for Crop Health Monitoring

IIIT NR's innovation will improve the situation for farmers in the agriculture field. Farmers will no longer have to be concerned when insecticides destroy their crops because, as recommended by the research team, all they need is a smartphone-controlled drone. With its assistance, the person can locate the insect and obtain a variety of cures for removing it off their phone screen.

About the Project

The project was dubbed "Artificial Intelligence and IoT Based UAV System for Crop Health Monitoring and Forecasting" by the IIIT NR research team, which included IIIT NR faculty members. The project's Principal Investigator is Dr. Shrivishal Tripathi, while the project's Co-Investigators are Dr. Anurag Singh and Dr. Muneendra Oja. The project has been funded by the SEED Division of SYST (Department of Science and Technology, Government of India).

The study has been submitted, but testing is still waiting because the researchers are unable to travel to rural communities due to a pandemic. The concept behind this project is that the team has created a drone that can be controlled effortlessly using a smartphone.

The drone will photograph a field that has been infested with insects or infested with weeds. The captured image will be sent to the company's primary computing unit for artificial intelligence-based predictive analysis, which will immediately identify the bug and display all relevant information about the insect, as well as its treatment, on the phone's screen. The drone is outfitted with IoT sensors that can be controlled by a smartphone.

The study team also intends to recommend that a person be hired in each panchayat to instruct farmers on how to use the drone or to run it himself. The good news is that farmers do not need to invest in the front; instead, they can borrow it from the Panchayat and use it on their field to learn about the problem, and then return it once the problem has been resolved.

The Indian government has provided a grant of Rs 24 lakh for this remarkable idea. The experts began working on the device in 2020 and finished it in 2021, but testing has been postponed due to the epidemic. The research team is working feverishly to finish it as quickly as possible and hand the final result to DSYST.

Dr. Shrivishal Tripathi, one of the principal investigators, stated that their experiment was completed but that testing was delayed due to a pandemic. He also stated that the team is working diligently to complete the testing as quickly as feasible.

He also expressed gratitude to the institute and its director, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sinha, for inspiring them to pursue their research and providing them with a comfortable environment on campus, which enabled them to complete their work. Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Director of IIIT NR, complimented the research team on their hard work and success and wished them well in the future.
