Italian Senator Lucio Malan Highlights Growing Importance of Relationship with India for Italy
Italian Senator Lucio Malan stated on April 13 that Italy's connection with India is becoming increasingly vital as India's economic and political relevance grows.
"The relationship with India is becoming increasingly important for Italy as India's economic and political importance grows," Malan said on Thursday, speaking about the 75-year partnership between India & Italy.
"These 75 years have been very fruitful," he remarked, "and relationships are developing, increasing, and improving." We collaborate and share interests in many sectors, including the economy, high technology, and education."
Italy, according to Malan, admires India's high level in scientific and mathematical fields. "We have a cultural interest; we even have a spiritual interest in India," he explained. "Our Prime Minister met Prime Minister Modi twice in the first five months of the new Giorgia Meloni-led cabinet." And that's really significant," Malan continued.
He went on to say, "The rapid growth of India, of the Indian economy, is a fact that all must consider." It's also encouraging to see that an Asian democracy's economy can flourish quickly. And this is critical for us. It is unquestionably an important investment location. Probably the best place in the world with such opportunity and potential that has yet to be completely realized."
He stated that he aspires to be present when India and Italy celebrate their 100th anniversaries. "We'll see a very developed and very modern India, probably the world's leading leader," he said. Meanwhile, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Wednesday to assess bilateral trade and economic cooperation. On Wednesday, Goyal arrived in Rome for a two-day visit to Italy.
According to a statement made by the ministry of commerce and industry on Thursday morning, the ministers met on Wednesday to discuss how the India-Italy trade and economic partnership may be leveraged for growth across varied industries.
During the discussion, both Ministers expressed their delight at the elevation of bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership as a result of the recent state visit to India by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Tajani proposed the formation of a joint working committee to monitor major advancements in strategic sectors such as space, technology, defence, agriculture, and so on.
