PM Kisan: 12 Lakh Ineligible Beneficiaries Identified in This State; Rs 1706 cr Transferred to Over 10 Lakh Farmers

Rs 1706 crore has been transferred to more than 10 lakh farmers in Jammu and Kashmir while around 12 lakh beneficiaries have been identified in Assam under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

We have two important updates for farmers regarding PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. First is - Rs 1706 crore has been transferred to more than 10 lakh farmers in Jammu and Kashmir under the PM Kisan Yojana (a Central Government Scheme).  The objective was to give a boost to the agriculture sector and farming community, which is the main driving force of UT's economy.

According to the official statement, till now, direct monetary assistance has been provided to 11.7 lakh farmers in the UT through the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and incentives worth Rs. 1,706 crore has been given to over a million beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

The Jammu and Kashmir economy is mainly agriculture dependent and around 70 percent of the population is directly or indirectly engaged in agricultural & allied activities.

12 lakh ineligible farmers identified in Assam

On the other hand, nearly 12 lakh ineligible farmers have received benefits under PM-Kisan scheme in Assam, the state government told Gauhati high court indicating a big scam in the farmer flagship programme.

While hearing a public interest litigation filed by NGO Amguri Naba Nirman Samity, a high court (HC) division bench comprising Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia & Justice Soumitra Saikia ordered the Assam government to file a detailed status report on the case.

The HC order given on Tuesday said, “The state has filed an affidavit wherein it has admitted that over 11 lakh persons have been wrongly given the benefit of PM Kisan scheme”.

The affidavit, which was filed by Gunajeet Kashyap, joint secretary to the agriculture department said that a government probe conducted by Jishnu Barua, chief secretary in 2020 had found that 11.72 lakh ineligible people had got benefits under the PM-KISAN scheme.

It further added that “The efforts of the state government are already underway for enquiry & recovery of money from ineligible persons who have been wrongly given the benefit of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme”.
