Record Yield of Fruits, Vegetables Expected in 2021-22: Government

Agriculture Ministry has released the third Advance Estimate of the area and production of various horticultural crops for the year 2021-22.

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare congratulated the scientists, farmers, and officers of the horticulture department for this big achievement.

The central government expects a record production of 342.33 million tonnes of vegetables and fruits in 2021-22, about 7.73 million tonnes more than the production in 2020-21.

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare congratulated the scientists, farmers, and officers of the horticulture department for this big achievement.

The area of cultivation is also likely to be increased to 28.08 million hectares from the previous 27.48 million hectares (2020-21), as per the third advance estimate.

The third advance estimates of the area and production of different horticultural crops for the year 2021-22, which is compiled on the basis of information received from States, Union Territories and other government source agencies, are as follows-

What the Third advance estimates says

Production of vegetables is projected to be 204.84 million tonnes as compared to 200.45 million tonnes in 2020-21.

Production of fruits is estimated to be 107.24 million tonnes as compared to 102.48 million tonnes in 2020-21.

Onion production is estimated to be 31.27 million tonnes as compared to 26.64 million tonnes in 2020-21.

Production of potatoes is projected at 53.39 million tonnes as against 56.17 million tonnes in the year 2020-21.

Production of tomatoes is likely to be 20.33 million tonnes as compared to 21.18 million tonnes in 2020-21.
