64 lakh farmers have received a total of Rs 6,765 crore from the Telangana government so far as part of the Rythu Bandhu scheme during the Kharif season. In accordance with the scheme, farmers receive Rs 5,000 each throughout the Kharif and Rabi seasons for each acre of land they own.

The scheme intends to assist farmers in purchasing inputs like seeds and pesticides in advance of the two agricultural seasons. This year, unlike past years when payments were announced in the first week of June, the disbursals were delayed.

Agricultural operations have been impacted by the state's persistent rains, which have caused flood waters to cover thousands of acres of fields. Once the flood waters have subsided, we will evaluate the degree of the damage to the sowings, according to a department of agriculture official.

A Revanth Reddy, the president of the Pradesh Congress Committee, has called for farmers whose fields were inundated as a result of the recent nonstop rain to receive compensation of Rs 15,000 per acre.

In the past several days, he claimed, farmers in the districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal, and Mahboobnagar lost crops on roughly 5 lakh acres.

In another instance, the Telangana government has announced that it will not give any benefit of 'Rythu Bandhu' scheme to farmers who cultivate ganja illegally as part of its campaign to eradicate the practice.

About Rythu Bandhu Scheme:

Telangana is a pioneer in farmer empowerment, with its Rythu Bandhu scheme. It is India's first farmer investment support initiative. Rythu Bandhu Scheme, commonly known as Farmers' Investment Support Scheme (FISS), is a welfare program run by the Telangana government that helps farmers invest in two crops every year.

The government is offering 5000 per acre every season to 60 lakh farmers to encourage agriculture investment twice a year, during the rabi (Yasangi) and kharif (Rainy) seasons. This is India's first direct farmer investment assistance initiative, in which cash is provided directly to farmers.
