SciGenom & CHARUSAT University Announces Industry Focused Ph.D. Program

SciGenom Labs, a genomics company with facilities in India (Cochin, Chennai, Hyderabad) and the United States (San Francisco), has announced a unique Industry-based PhD programme to support research in the disciplines of Genomics, Proteomics, Microbiome, and Bio-Nanotech in collaboration with CHARUSAT University.

While working in SciGenom, students will be able to participate in research activities with scientists from multiple international universities and independent research institutions to find solutions to real-world problems that plague humanity.

Students must have passed one of the National Eligibility Tests for Junior Research Fellowships (NET-JRF), such as CSIR-UGC, DBT, GATE, or INSPIRE. The chosen students will be registered at CHARUSAT University while working for one of the SciGenom group's leading companies. In addition to the government fellowship, the selected researchers will receive an additional stipend during their PhD programme. Admissions will begin in September 2022 and will last the entire year.

"SciGenom has always contributed towards advanced research in the areas of genomics and precision medicine through multiple initiatives that are being driven globally," said Sam Santhosh, Founder and Chairman of SciGenom. We hope to achieve breakthroughs in Precision Medicine, Environmental remediation, and Agricultural productivity through our collaboration with SciGenom and CHARUSAT - An A+ Grade University.”

“Simultaneously, we are working to preserve India's rich bio-cultural diversity and heritage through our 'Hortus Malabaricus- Medicinal Plant Garden,' which was established in 2016 by SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF). As a result, this collaboration will help SciGenom achieve its goal of creating an integrated ecosystem of science-focused entrepreneurs through incubation, proof of concept validation, international collaborations, talent development, and funding."

"CHARUSAT is a top-ranked university in the country with an A+ grade from NAAC," said Dr. R.V. Upadhyay, Provost of CHARUSAT. CHARUSAT uses research and development as a flywheel to propel its teaching-learning and societal development activities. This PhD programme, developed in collaboration with SciGenom, aims to address the industry's talent shortage while also contributing to India's research and development capacity. We will be able to collaborate with national and international universities with the help of SciGenom, resulting in globally recognised solutions in the areas of cancer management, environmental sustainability, and food security."

This PhD programme with CHARUSAT will be India's first and only programme in which students will work directly on live projects with an industrial body in their specialized field. CHARUSAT has currently ranked the 22nd best university in India.
