The Spices Board is holding a massive cardamom special e-auction on Sunday (26 September) to mark the country's 75th anniversary of independence. The e-auction will bring the spice community together, allowing producers to connect with spice dealers across the country to participate in the country's largest cardamom e-auction.

According to D Sathiyan, Secretary, Spices Board, this is a special e-auction apart from the regularly scheduled auction to enable the sale of 75,000 kg of small cardamom. The spice farming community will benefit from this auction since it will provide them with an additional chance to market their products. Furthermore, it will boost their competition, resulting in a price hike for their products, he noted.

The e-auction will be held at the Board's e-auction facility in Puttady, Idukki. It is held in conjunction with Vanijya Saptah, a series of activities organised by the Commerce Department and the Spices Board to promote economic growth and exports.

This massive cardamom auction is likely to attract a huge number of exporters and traders. The e-auction will begin early in the morning and conclude later that day.

About Spices Board

With the merging of the former Cardamom Board (1968) and Spices Export Promotion Council on February 26, 1987, the Spices Board was established under the Spices Board Act 1986 (No. 10 of 1986). (1960). The Spices Board is one of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's five commodity boards. It is a self-governing organisation in charge of promoting the export of the 52 designated spices as well as the growth of cardamom (Small & Large).

The Board's main responsibilities are the growth of small and big cardamom, as well as the promotion, development, regulation, and quality control of spices for export. Under the Indian Cardamom Research Institute, the Spices Board also conducts research on cardamom (small and large).
