Tamil Nadu Agri University Gets Patent for Protein-Based Crop Growth Booster
The Seed Centre conducted research to standardise seed treatment and foliar spray with ‘Protein Extract’ to increase crop growth
TNAU (Tamil Nadu Agricultural University) has received a patent for its technology on protein extraction for treatment of seed and foliar spray utilization. Research was conducted by TNAU in order to standardize the treatment of seed and foliar spray with protein extract, in an attempt to increase growth of crops and its productivity.
TNAU has expressed that 1 to 1.5 % application of protein induced extract to the crop in its pre-flowering as well as flowering stage results in the increase in crop yield of upto 15 %. Similarly, when the extract is applied through the coating of the seed, the germination has increased by around 6 to 8 % and dry matter for the seedling has increased by more than 10 to 15 % in total.
Another way is to soak the seeds in 0.5 to 0.75 % protein induced solution before sowing. This has led to an increase in the germination of seed by more than 6 to 10 %, which invariably depends on the seed of the crop.
The items were pitched as natural crop growth boosters namely, NutriGold and SeedAid.
An application was petitioned for patent by the researchers for the recently evolved innovation which incorporates product development method of protein extract for both seed treatment and foliar shower to improve crop efficiency and after appropriate assessment, patent was provided.
