A lot of development can be seen in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. The government of Jammu and Kashmir has prioritized development to boost the farm sector. For this, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Govt. of India has set up an agriculture engineering testing lab for the testing of agri machinery. The motive to set up this testing lab is to increase agricultural production by providing tested as well as quality machinery to the farmers. The machinery include motors, water pumps and tractors to provide better results to the growers.

The engineering testing lab is located in the main campus of SKUAST or Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir. Since the formation of the Union Territory government, the administration is trying to provide modern facilities and machinery to upgrade the agriculture sector in the Valley.

Prof. Nazir Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST said, "The Ministry of Agriculture had inaugurated the Centre last year. Here we check whatever machinery & equipment in the state or are being used in the neighboring states, to see if they comply with the specifications. We certify the machines regarding these norms”.

Dr. Muzamil, Assistant Professor of Test Lab Centre said that “Earlier, we did not have facilities to repair defective imported machinery, if any and even farmers had no skill as to how to repair them. But now in the testing center, we assure it beforehand say for ten years, that machine must work properly so that farmers don't have tension regarding it. Here in the testing center, we also assure that growers don't need to worry about its maintenance. After a certain period, one has to take some precautionary measures to make sure that the machine works well at the field level. Thus, in my opinion, there will be a gradual change in the production of the state level”.
