Tomar Lays Foundation Stone for Indo-Israel Center of Excellence for Vegetables via Video Conferencing

The Union Agriculture Minister expressed hope that UP will achieve a new dimension in agriculture in the coming years. He stated that, in the same way that UP has led the way in the fields of cultural heritage and scientific knowledge, it will lead the way in agricultural development in the country.

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, laid the foundation stone for the Indo-Israel Center of Excellence for Vegetables in Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli district via video conferencing. Speaking on the occasion, Tomar said that the Central and State Governments are collaborating to boost agriculture sector.

"It is necessary for educated youth to be oriented toward this in order to move the agriculture sector forward more quickly in the future," he said. Tomar expressed satisfaction that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, progress is being made in various sectors, including agriculture, in Uttar Pradesh, and that the state is contributing more to national development. He also expressed satisfaction that the Central Government's schemes are being implemented in Uttar Pradesh, and that the state has made rapid progress in organic and natural farming.

It will also be a revolutionary step in the field of agriculture in the neighbouring districts and districts of the Bihar border. Many new opportunities for advancement will be created through agriculture. Farmers will be able to increase yields by employing cutting-edge farming techniques, he claims.

Tomar stated that agriculture must continue to advance and that product quality must meet global standards. Technology applications must progress in this direction. Agriculture must be revitalized in order to attract future generations to farming. We must all work hard to move toward remunerative crops, the use of technology, the Digital Agriculture Mission, the use of FPOs, and the adoption of natural and organic farming. "We will work together to meet our priorities and obligations," he said.

Tomar hoped that the establishment of the Indo-Israel Center of Excellence for Vegetables would help the development of the Chandauli district and the Purvanchal region. "Here, improved vegetable seeds and plants will be cultivated and distributed to farmers." Farmers can also fund the development of plants for their own use.

Farmers will benefit greatly from increased vegetable production. Farmers will be able to increase yield and export vegetables by using cutting-edge farming techniques. This Center of Excellence will prepare a nursery of other agricultural produce, including vegetables, in order to promote the agriculture sector globally. This will not only benefit the farmers in the area but will also help the district gain international recognition in the field of vegetables and agriculture," he said.

According to the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the government intends for the district that leads in paddy and wheat production to also lead in vegetable production.

"The climate of Chandauli district, known as UP's rice bowl, is ideal for establishing the Center of Excellence for Vegetables." The state has 9 agro-climatic zones that are suitable for the cultivation of various horticultural crops throughout the year. The technology for the Center is provided by Israeli experts under the India-Israel Action Plan (IIAP), with funds from MIDH for building demonstration infrastructure. Centers of Excellence (CoEs) based on Israeli technologies are being established in the United States. These Centers of Excellence serve as demonstration and training facilities for the most advanced horticultural technologies. They also provide planting material for fruits and vegetables grown in protected areas.
