Uttar Pradesh Issues a New Excise Policy To Generate Revenue For Farmers

The government of Uttar Pradesh has announced a new excise policy for the fiscal year 2022-23 in order to help farmers earn more money from their crops. Sanjay Bhusa Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary Excise and Sugar Industry, told PTI on Saturday that the measure is intended at creating jobs and providing a market for agricultural output, as well as attracting large-scale investment.

The price of liquor will not be increased under the new policy, but the licensing fee will be hiked by 7.5 percent, he added. He claims that the move would allow him to give customers with high-quality liquor at competitive prices. According to the official, liquor produced in Uttar Pradesh would only be sold in glass bottles rather than tetra packs.

In the event that glass bottles are unavailable, he stated tetra packs will be permitted. Country liquor, foreign liquor, beer retail stores, model shops, and premium retail are all open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., as they were previously.

According to the official, the state was previously a consumer of liquor and beer, but it will now be developed as a producer. He stated that the liquor will be manufactured using fruits cultivated in Uttar Pradesh, such as the Lucknowi Dussehri mango.

Aside from that, the wheat and barley used in beer production will be sourced from inside the state. Three locations, including Barabanki and Mirzapur, will make beer. He also mentioned that an effort has been made to create liquor from rice, maize, and potato.
