Vertical Farming: This Innovative Indoor Garden uses Aeroponics to Grow Plants, No More Need For Growth Medium & Soil

Aeroponics is a form of indoor gardening that does not require the use of soil or a growth medium. Indoor gardens have become a popular addition to modern living rooms. Stay-at-home orders have encouraged many of us to incorporate biophilic design into our homes to bring us closer to the outdoors in recent years.

Indoor gardens, on the one hand, give a splash of color to our interior design. Indoor gardens, on the other hand, put food and nutrients within reach. Sebastian Weigand designed an indoor garden using an aeroponics system to grow a variety of plants to decrease food waste and rediscover the numerous benefits of plant cultivation.

Aeroponics is a method of growing plants that do not involve the use of soil or a growth medium. In an aeroponics system, the plants' roots are simply hung in a dark compartment and sprayed with a nutrient-rich mist to encourage development. "Growing [plants] at home also promotes consciousness," Weigand says. The purpose of the concept was to integrate the current aeroponic gardening system inside every home to improve food awareness."

The Aeroponics Indoor Garden is made of a narrow steel frame with a natural wood covering to maintain a minimalist look. The wood finish adds a refined touch to the system, making it suitable for every area, from the living room to the kitchen. Four rows of planters on the Aeroponics Indoor Garden have a similar appearance to that of a wooden bookshelf and hold various plants.

The system's core processes hide all of the magic, but the overall structure maintains an elemental look.

The vertical design of the indoor garden gives it a slender appearance, but the system's base houses all of the interior workings. 

Users can locate a reservoir just above the legs of Weigand's Aeroponics Indoor Garden, which holds the nutrient-rich mist that is fed through internal valves and spread throughout the system to nourish different plants.

Integrated drains channel excess liquid back into the base reservoir if too much nutrient-rich mist is supplied.
