Xth Annual Group Meeting of All India Network Research Project on Onion & Garlic at IARI

Division of Vegetable Science, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi in collaboration with ICAR-DOGR; Pune has organized the Xth Annual Group Meeting of All India Network Research Project on Onion and Garlic from 31st May to 2nd June, 2019 at Dr. B.P. Pal Auditorium, ICAR-IARI, Pusa Campus, New Delhi. The sponsors of the meeting included NHRDF, New Delhi, Kailash seeds, Beej Sheetal Research Pvt Ltd., Jalna and others. The NHRDF is a pioneer institute to start R&D work on onion and garlic crops in the country. It has developed 18 varieties of garlic and 12 varieties of onion. It has not only developed the varieties but it is also maintaining seed chain on regular basis under the MIDH and providing quality seed / planting material to growers in the country. Dr. A.K. Singh, DDG (Hort. & Crop Science (additional charge) was the Chief Guest of the function and inaugurated the group meeting on 31st May. During the group meeting five different sessions were organized to discuss the results of various trials carried out by various centers (main centers/voluntary centers working under AINRPOG). Considering his vast experience in the research and management of onion and garlic and his long association with these crops.

During the session Dr. Vide Gaura was presented with the NHRDF award - Rs 81000 and one citation. Dr. B.S.TomarOrganising Secretary, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi gave vote of thanks. Guests of honour were Dr. P.K.Gupta, Director, NHRDF, Dr. K.E.Lawande, Ex VC, DBSKKV and Ex Director, ICAR-DOGR and Dr. Kirti Singh Ex Chairman, ASRB and Ex-VC.  

Technical sessions on Crop improvement, crop protection and production along with sessions on Farmer Scientist-Seeds Man-Entrepreneurs-Interface were also the part of the programme. Invited lecture by Dr. Rajender Prasad, Principal Scientist, IASRI was followed by visit to IARI research farm and labs.Newly released varieties of Onion and garlic were also disseminated through the publications released.
