Hydroponics Vs Aquaponics

What is Hydroponics

Hydroponics is the science for growing plants without soil. A method of growing plants without soil using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent. The nutrients in hydroponics can come from different sources other than animal waste or any other waste products.  It can be called as the subset of hydroculture.

There is a long research history as to how it evolved. Two plant nutritionists, Dennis R. Hoagland and Daniel I. Arnon from the University of California were asked to claim William Frederick Gericke’s experiment done earlier on the same.

Their work was published in the journal, The water Culture Method for Growing Plants Without Soil, which made the claim that hydroponic yield was no better than the crop yield with good quality soil. But they overlooked the fact that cultivation in soil requires proper monitoring of water as too less water will make the plant dead and too much of water will affect the roots and will ultimately lead to the death of plant which is not the case in hydroponics.

In hydroponics light is not the limiting factor and plants can use as little or more water it needs and remaining water is circulated with ample amount of oxygen available for plants through water.

What is Aquaponics

Of course it is the sister branch of hydroponics but with a difference that the water used to grow plants in pipes and other medium is received from a fish tank. Yes! Here one can do fish farming as well as agriculture at a time.

The used water from fish tank is circulated for plants in the green house using all the waste and contaminants from tank which act as a source of nutrients for plants in a way preventing environment pollution as it stops the discard of waste in oceans using them as fertilizers for plants the clear water after the use of waste material can again be used for fish tank and thus balancing the water ecosystem in a most beautiful and amazing style.

So…What are you waiting for? It’s the right time to start your own Aquaponic farm.
