About Brahmagiri Development Society (BDS):
Brahmagiri Development Society (BDS) was founded in 1999 to support Wayanad's farming community in becoming self-sufficient.
The initiative's main goal is to provide a springboard for agrarian ambitions to efficiently deal with market price fluctuations for their goods, encouraging self-confidence in them to achieve significant development rather than struggle for survival. The initiative also intends to provide farmers with the tools they need to better their financial situation by allowing them to use new technology and methods.
The BDS has been offering several training programmes in the dairy farming sector since its inception. With the help of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the Western Ghats Development Programme, the activities included scientific fodder production, the construction of cattle sheds and bio-gas plants, the distribution of Azolla plants, and the implementation of Watershed Development programmes (GDP).
The 'Malabar Meat' is the latest offering from the Brahmagiri Development Society.
'Malabar Meat,' a revolutionary BDS effort, is an innovative community-based farmer-oriented endeavour. The BDS's multi-species meat processing plant at Manjadi, near Sulthan Bathery in the Wayanad district, processes and packages high-quality beef, mutton, rabbit, and poultry products. The hygienic and nutritious meat is offered under the brand name 'Malabar Meat' by agencies located across the northern Malabar area.
The state-of-the-art plant, which spans 13 acres of land, processes stock obtained from BDS-registered self-help organisations. The Kudumbashree Mission's 40-crore cattle breeding programme in Wayanad and Kannur, with the help of NABARD, also supplies livestock to the plant, which is Asia's largest multi-species abattoir.
With assistance from all corners, the Brahmagiri Development Society is ready to broaden its vision of farmer-friendly operations.
