Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) in Anantnag has begun functioning under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) scheme in a beneficial step in Jammu and Kashmir.

Under the FPO, an awareness cum workshop for trout fish producers was also organized. Through the scheme, fish producers will learn about the importance and advantages of FPO.

"We conveyed information on the necessity and advantages of FPO to the farmers," NABARD District Development Manager Rouf Zargar told ANI. I'm pleased to report that a fisheries FPO was also sanctioned. This is the first FPO in Jammu and Kashmir to be authorized under Fisheries in Jammu and Kashmir. This will aid the fish farmers, who rely on this for a living."

"They established a Farmer Producer Organization, and the awareness programme  was regarding the same. This programme provided us with several benefits. It might even spread to the international level," a farmer said.

"With the support of NABARD, we can promote our product to the international level through this organization," another farmer added.

Previously, the Jammu and Kashmir government started the Integrated Sheep Development Scheme with an aim to promote the establishment of sheep and goat units in the union territory. A budget of around Rs.10 crore has also been set aside for the initiative.

The residents of Chhapar village in Udhampur's Jaganoo block have already begun to reap the benefits of the scheme and are reaping huge profits. The village people are procuring sheep and goats under this scheme, which is also in line with PM Modi's mission of doubling farmers' income.

The Integrated Sheep Development Scheme is an innovative government program designed to augment and complement existing and new animal husbandry schemes in the Union Territory and the Centre. The scheme provides beneficiaries with a total of 25 sheep or 10 goats free of cost.
