GADVASU Organizes International Training on Fertility Augmentation in Buffaloes

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) sponsored the international training programme that will be attended by nine veterinary officers/livestock development officers/scientists from various Nepalese organizations.

This training programme will focus on improving and updating Nepalese officers' knowledge of buffalo reproduction and related issues such as delayed puberty, anestrus, seasonal breeding, infertility, uterine torsion, uterine infections, and so on.

They will also learn novel techniques for improving buffalo reproductive efficiency, such as superovulation, embryo transfer, semen cryopreservation, estrus synchronisation, handling of semen, sexed semen technology, etc.

Buffalo is a major dairy animal being reared in South-East Asian countries. India has the largest buffalo population in the world. Nepal is an adjoining country of India with many social, cultural, and societal similarities.

Nepal also has a population of more than 52 lakhs buffaloes mainly reared by small and marginal farmers. The Directorate of Extension Education, in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, organized this training program.

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, the Vice-Chancellor, said that this training would improve the knowledge and skill of participants working in the field of buffalo reproduction in Nepal. It shall open up new areas of collaboration between the two countries.

Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, addressed the participants and stressed upon the importance of this training program in improving the technical know-how and field applicability of technologies developed for the improvement of the productivity of buffaloes.

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) was established at Ludhiana by an act of the Punjab Legislature No. 16 of 2005 notified in the Punjab Government Gazette on August 9, 2005, and it started functioning w.e.f. April 21, 2006 for promoting livestock production, health and prevention of the disease(s) through integrated teaching, research and extension programme(s).
