NDDB Develops New indigenous Sex-sorted Semen Technology; Know How It Guarantees the Birth of Female Calves

The subsidiary unit of the National Dairy Development Board, NDDB Dairy Services has recently announced that it has created indigenous sex-sorted semen technology which guarantees the birth of just female calves.

As per sources, the preliminary field testing of the technology were empowering and the 1st female calf from the sex-arranged semen dose, delivered at Alamadhi Semen Station located at Tamil Nadu, was conceived in a farm close to Chennai in October 2020, the statement said.

Right now, sex-arranged semen advancements are exclusive to a couple of worldwide organizations, which makes the innovation costly for dairy farmers. The capacity to guarantee the birth of just female calves gives a favorable position in terms of money to the farmers, it added.

NDDB Chairman Dilip Rath commented, "The undertaking to create indigenous innovation and technology for sex-arranged sperm dose was taken up by NDDB Dairy Services a couple of years back with a goal to essentially cut down the expense of such doses and to support the small dairy farmers in India" He also added, "doses created using the new technology meets all the industry and production standards. Also the development of this new technology at an affordable price will lead to mass adoption among the farmers of the country".

Managing Director for NDDB Dairy Services, Saugata Mitra said, " The innovation will help cut down the expense of planned impregnation utilizing sex sorted semen essentially from the current Rupees 1,000. This will likewise be a defining moment in defeating the issue of homeless cows in the nation". He also added "these sex-sorted semen doses are going to be commercially accessible from January 2021 and would eventually help farmers double their income in the coming future.

NDDB Dairy Services has collaborated with Bengaluru-based Jiva Sciences, a R&D company, for creating indigenous sex-sorting technology. Other Bangalore based companies like National Centre for Biological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science and Indian Institute of Technology-Madras helped in developing some of the major key components of the technology.

The 4 large semen stations managed by NDDB Dairy Services in the country  are located at Sabarmati Ashram Gaushala near Ahmedabad, Animal Breeding Centre near Lucknow, Alamadhi Semen Station near Chennai and Rahuri Semen Station near Pune. Altogether these 4 semen stations produce near to 35 percent of the total semen that is produced in India.
