Kerala Govt to Transport Cattle Feed Raw Material By Rail: J Chinchu Rani
She said this after inaugurating a facilitation centre (FACE) of Kerala Feeds Ltd, which will update farmers on the latest trends and scientific practices in milk production.
According to Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister J Chinchu Rani, the Kerala government has reached an agreement with the Centre to use special trains to bring raw materials for making cattle feed to the state. She said this after inaugurating a facilitation centre (FACE) of Kerala Feeds Ltd, which will update farmers on the latest trends and scientific practices in milk production.
"Our move comes ahead of the launch of microchips that store the complete data of cow health under the E-Samridh programme, which we are piloting in Pathanamthitta," Chinchu Rani at the function where Higher Education Minister R. Bindu unveiled an updated version of the KFL website carrying details of the company’s latest products.
Chinchu Rani stated that the government is considering establishing methods for mass production of feeds for pets and birds.
Earlier, Minister Bindu requested that the company begin producing feed for pets and birds, noting that they are becoming increasingly popular throughout the state.
KFL Chairman K. Sreekumar stated that the company has returned to profitability despite a continuing scarcity of raw materials and constraints on a PSU's ability to raise product prices to compete with private-sector competitors.
According to the PSU's Managing Director, B. Sreekumar, KFL is planning to release a broiler chicken feed. Kudumbashree volunteers will distribute the new product.
The facilitation centre has opened on the premises of KFL's plant in Kallettumkara, Thrissur. Three products were introduced at the event: chick mash for chickens up to two months old, a milk booster to provide energy to milch cows and improve the quality of their milk, and a 20-kg calf starter as a complete feed for young calves.
The KFL, which was founded in 1995, offers a variety of products that cater to various breeds of cows, ensuring good health as well as increased productivity and milk quality.
