Golu-2 - the giant buffalo

Golu-2, a Murrah breed buffalo is in news since past few months. It was also the centre of attraction in the 3-day agriculture fair held in Morena, Madhya Pradesh last month. Thousands of people from different parts of the state came to see this buffalo.

Who is the owner of Golu-2?

Naveen Singh, a farmer from Panipat is the owner of this huge and popular buffalo.

Born and raised in a village in Panipat, Haryana, the buffalo eats around 30 kgs of green and dry fodder every day. Besides this, he eats around 7.5 kg mixture made of wheat and grams.

Owner Earns Rs 20 lakh from Golu-2’s Semen

A senior veterinary expert told media that every year, Golu-2, whose weight is 15 quintals produces huge amount of semen that is needed to inseminate over 10,000 buffaloes whereas a normal male buffalo can hardly inseminate 1,000 buffaloes in a year.

His owner has so far earned Rs 25 lakh from the semen (sperm). Every month this buffalo earns about Rs. 10-12 lakhs, in which about Rs. 3 lakhs are spent in its diet and maintenance. Naveen Singh says that Golu-2 will be able to earn for 12 more years.

The owner has kept special security personnel for his safety.

Singh told media that he has raised Golu-2 like his child and not like a domestic animal. He said that about four years ago in an agricultural fair held in Panipat, a buyer was ready to purchase his buffalo for Rs.10 crores but he did not sell him. He also told that a farmer from Haryana was ready to give 20 acres of land in exchange for Golu-2, but Singh refused.

Golu-2 takes bath in a separate pool

This popular buffalo does not use a pond but a special pool for bathing. Naveen Singh has made a huge pool in his farm for Golu-2, wherein he takes bath daily for at least two hours. Around 3kg mustard oil is used daily for his massage.

As per media reports, Golu-2 is currently 4 years old. His grandfather’s name is Golu-1 and father's name is PC-483.
