Poultry Sector Urges for Creation of an Organisation Similar To MPEDA to Promote Exports
The poultry sector has requested that the Centre establish a body similar to MPEDA to promote exports.
The poultry sector, which has a market value of about Rs 1.5 lakh crore, has requested that the Centre establish a body similar to MPEDA (Marine Products Exports Development Authority) to promote exports.
“The government established MPEDA to guarantee that the marine goods market became competitive from end to end. What are their methods for accomplishing this? They make certain that individuals receive the proper germ plasm. Then they held training programs for farmers on improved management practices,” BS Yadav, Managing Director of Godrej Agrovet Ltd, stated on the sidelines of the CLFMA (Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturers) of India's two-day national symposium.
According to him, the government also supplied the processors with appropriate skills, market access, and incentives. “This is exactly what we need. “Our chicken goods have a large market outside of the nation, particularly in regions like the Gulf,” he added. “They will help us compete by assisting us in better managing illnesses. He stated, "The whole value-chain management would take place in collaboration with the government."
Limited Exports
He claimed that the country's chicken exports were only about Rs 435 crore. When compared to the entire scale of the industry in the country, this was a drop in the bucket.
“There's a lot of potential here. Individual players will find it difficult to capitalise on this enormous potential. It will be simpler if a sovereign country does it,” he said, adding that the industry did not want export subsidies indefinitely. “For a few years, we'll need government assistance. Following that, the industry would be on its own,” he said.
