Training on 'Scientific Management of Dairy Animals’ Held at KVK, Booh

On Monday, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of GADVASU held a one-day workshop on 'Scientific management of dairy animals' in Booh.

Dairy farming is a type of agriculture that involves the long-term production of milk that is then processed and sold as a dairy product.

For thousands of years, dairy farming has been an integral element of the agriculture. India is primarily an agricultural economy, with over 70% of the people living in villages, where livestock plays an important part in socioeconomic life.

Cheese, butter, yogurt, ice cream, and milk are examples of dairy products. Dairy farm by-products are also used to feed new-born cows and for non-food applications such as paint, high-quality color print paper, and, aviation coating.

The goal of excellent dairy farming practise is to produce safe, high-quality milk from healthy animals in generally acceptable circumstances on the farm.

Tjeerd Dijkstra, a PUM Netherlands specialist, gave the keynote talk, advising dairy farmers on how to increase production and profits. He advised farmers on issues such as mastitis management, infertility, and other livestock-related issues. Dijkstra also advised dairy farmers on how to manufacture silage using technological improvements in order to increase dairy profitability.

He explained to farmers the robot milking method being used in the Netherlands and answered questions from the public.

The event was well-attended by KVK specialists, veterinary officials, and farmers, who learned new approaches for successful dairy farming.

The session was attended by veterinary officers from the Animal Husbandry Departments of Tarn Taran and Amritsar districts, as well as progressive dairy farmers. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, assistant director of KVK, discussed innovative dairy farmer trials with the audience.
