15 Tourist Destinations Close to Delhi

Weekend is the time when you need to relax from your chores and official work to enjoy to the fullest. This is the time when we truly get time to spend with our dear ones. To get to it, we need to move out and look for some good destinations that will not only relax our mood but also provide us stress free environment.

Here we will discuss about few places very near to Delhi where one can reach within few hours. 

1. Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary

Distance:  195 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For:  Wildlife Photography, Couples 

One of the finest bird parks in the world, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary (Keoladeo Ghana National Park) is a reserve that offers protection to faunal species as well. Nesting indigenous water- birds as well as migratory water birds and waterside birds, this sanctuary is also inhabited by Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar.  

 

2.Surajkund

Distance: 30 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Family Holiday, Historical Trip 

Surajkund  is an ancient reservoir of the 10th century located on South Delhi. Ridge of Aravalli range in Faridabad city of Haryana state about 8 km (5 miles) from South Delhi. The place is well known for its annual fair "Surajkund International Craft Mela", 2015 edition of this fair was visited by 1.2 million visitors including 160,000 foreigners with more than 20 countries participating in it. 

 

3. Alwar/ Neemrana

Distance: 120 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Couples, Historical Trip, Wildlife Photography 

Neemrana is an ancient historical town in Alwar district of Rajasthan, India, situated at 84 km from Gurgaon;122 km from Delhi and 150 km from Jaipur on the Delhi-Jaipur highway in Neemrana tehsil. It is situated in between Behror and Shahajahanpur. Neemrana is an industrial hub. It is famous for it’s magnificent Neemrana Fort Palace. It was built in 1464 AD, a palace from where Rajput Maharaja Prithvi Raj Chauhan III reigned. Neemrana fort is now converted into one of the Rajasthan's oldest heritage luxury hotels. 

4.Rishikesh

Distance: 230 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Pilgrimage, Adventure Trip, Couples 

Rishikesh, also known as  Hrishikesh  is a city governed by Rishikesh Municipal Corporation  (since October 2017), and a  tehsil  in Dehradun District of the Indian state state Uttarakhand. The Ganges one of the most sacred rivers to Hindus flows through Rishikesh. Shatrughna Mandir Bharat Mandir and Lakshman Mandir are the ancient temples established by Adi ShankarcharyaShatrughna Temple is near Ran Jhula and Lakshman Mandir is near Lakshman Jhula. 

 

5. Corbett National Park

Distance: 235 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Wildlife Photography, Couples 

Jim Corbett National Park is the oldest national park in India and was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park to protect the endangered Bengal Tiger. It is located in Nainital District of  Uttarakhand and was named after Corbett, a well known hunter and naturalist. The park was the first to come under the Project Tiger initiative. 

Dhikala is a well-known destination in the park and situated at the fringes of Patli Dun valley. There is a rest house, which was built hundreds of years ago. Kanda ridge forms the backdrop, and from Dhikala, there are views of the valley.  

Jeep Safari is the most common way to travel within the national park; jeeps can be rented for park trips from Ramnagar 

Treks: tourists are not allowed to walk inside the park, but only to go trekking around the park in the company of a guide. The winter season is cold, so tourists should make proper arrangements for their clothing, if they are traveling in the winter season.  

Walking Safaris are possible in the buffer zone areas - and very rewarding with Corbett having a very healthy and lush, rich buffer zone around; look for lodges around with trained staff for the same.  

Kalagarh Dam is dam located in the south-west of the wildlife sanctuary. This is one of the best places for a bird watching tour. Lots of migratory waterfowl comes here in the winters.  

Corbett Falls is a 20 m (66 ft) water fall situated 25 km (16 mi) from Ramnagar, and 4 km (2.5 mi) from Kaladhungi, on the KaladhungiRamnagar highway. The water falls is surrounded by dense forests and pin drop silence.  

Garjiya Devi Temple is sacred to Garjiya Devi and is mostly visited by the traveller during the Kartik Poornima (November – December). It is a prominent temple located on the bank of river Kosi, amidst the hilly terrains of Uttarakhand, nearby Garjiya village, at a distance of 14 km. from Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, India.  

6. Mathura and Vrindavan

Distance: 160 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Family Vacation, Pilgrimage 

Located in the western part of Uttar Pradesh, Mathura is a jumble of never-ending lanes teeming with folks, rickshaws and glittering shops. The city is dotted with magnificent temples, most of them dedicated to Lord Krishna, the city’s presiding deity and its first citizen. Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple, Geeta mandir and Shri Rangji tmeple are few places to visit here.  

7. Lansdowne

Distance: 250 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Couples, Family Vacation, Adventure Lovers 

Lansdowne, is a cantonment town in Pauri Garhwal district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.Lansdowne or Lansdowne is a town and a hill station situated on the Kotdwar - Pauri road at a height of 1,706 m in Uttarakhand, India. Lansdowne is located in the Pauri district of Uttarakhand, 45 km from Kotdwar. Famous Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple with its special Shivalinga and a Kund (a small pond) known as Gauri Kund is situated 39 km away from Lansdowne. People take bath in Gauri Kund before entering the temple. Two other famous temples, Durga Devi Temple and Jwalpa Devi, which are on the Pauri Kotdwar road are 24 km and 47 km away respectively. Durga Devi Temple is one of the oldest Siddha Pithas in India. 

8. Mandawa

Distance: 260 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Family Vacation, Historical Trip 

Mandawa is a town in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan in India. Mandawa is known for its fort and havelis. The fort town of Mandawa is well connected with the other places in region through a good network of roads. The NH 11(Rewari (Haryana) to Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) is passing through Mandawa. The fort of Mandawa was founded in the 18th century. Situated in the middle of the town, the Mandawa Fort has been converted into a heritage hotel. 

 

9.Dausa

Distance: 260 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Couples, Historical Trip 

 It is 55 km from Jaipur, 240 km from Delhi and located on Jaipur Agra National Highway  (NH-21). It is also known as "Dev Nagari." and now Getolav is main attraction of Dausa as Getolav. The district is well connected by rail. It is on Dehi-Jaipur and Agra-Jaipur train route, which gives it great connectivity. District has also one important railway station, namely, Bandikui Junction. Dausa railway station is a very important railway station of north-western railway under Jaipur division and now the new railway line is under construction and starts very soon, after this Dausa railway station will be the junction. 

10.Dundlod

Distance: 265 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Historical Trip 

Dundlod is a town in Jhunjhunu district of  Rajasthan in India. It is situated in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. Best known for its fort and havelis, Dundlod fort is a blend of the Rajput and Mughal art and architecture nearby the fort is the Chhatri of Ram Dutt Goenka, which has an adjacent well. Built in 1888, the dome has floral motifs with banners extending from the centre. The dome is encircled by frieze showing Krishna dancing with his gopis, interspersed with musicians and peacocks.  

11.Kasauli

Distance: 300 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Family Vacation, Couples 

Kasauli is a cantonment and town, located in Solan District in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The cantonment was established by the British Raj in 1842 as a Colonial hill station 77 km from Shimla, 65 km from Chandigarh, and 94 km from Ambala Cantt (Haryana), an important Railway Junction of North India. 

The important destinations are Central Research Institute, Baptist church, Christ church, circuit house, krishna bhawan mandir,nahri temple, hanuman mandir and others.

 

12. Naukuchiatal

Distance: 300 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Adventure Lovers, Family Vacation, Couples 

Naukuchiatal or "lake of nine corners" is a small hill station in Nainital District of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The lake is 175 feet deep and is situated at 1,220 m above sea level. It is surrounded by hills covered in trees and shrubs. It is the deepest of all the lakes in the Nainital region. Few nearby places to visit are; Hanuman temple, Mukhteshwar, Sat Tal, Nainital, AlmoraRanikhet Bhimtal & Haldwani 

 

13.Ranikhet

Distance: 340 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Family Vacation, Couples 

Ranikhet is a hill station and cantonment town in Almora District in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is the home for the Military Hospital, Kumaon Regiment (KRC) and Naga Regiment and is maintained by the Indian Army. Ranikhet, which means Queen's meadow in Hindi, gets its name from a local legend, which states that it was here, that Raja Sudhardev won the heart of his queen, Rani Padmini, who subsequently chose the area for her residence, giving it the name, Ranikhet, places to visit are Golf course, Ashiyana Park, Mankameshwar temple, Rani Jheel and others. 

14.Shoghi

Distance: 343 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Nature Lovers 

Shoghi is a small suburb of Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India.  Few places nearby are Shimla, viceregal lodge, Tara devi temple, Hanuman temple, Kali temple, Kandaghat etc.   

15.Almora

Distance: 350 km from the city of Delhi 

Best For: Family Vacation, Couples 

Almora was founded in 1568 by Kalyan Chand during the rule of the Chand dynasty Prior to that the region was under the control of Katyuri King Bhaichaldeo who donated a part of Almora to Sri Chand Tiwari. Almora is well connected by motorable roads with major destinations of Uttarakhand state and northern India. Uttarakhand Transport Corporation runs Buses from Almora bus station to Delhi and Dehradun. Taxis and Private Buses, mostly run by K.M.O.U, connect Almora to other major destinations of Kumaon region. Almora has many notable temples, including Kesar Devi,Nanda Devi, Doli Daana, Shyayi Devi, KhakmaraAsht BhairavJakhandeviKatarmal (Sun Temple), Pataal Devi, Raghunath Mandir, BadreshwarBanari Devi, Chitai,JageshwarBinsar Mahadev, Garhnath and Baijnath.
