1. Texture Test:
One of the simplest yet most effective methods to identify fake paneer is by conducting a texture test. Real paneer, made from pure milk, has a soft and crumbly texture. On the other hand, synthetic paneer, often crafted from milk powder and additives like palm oil, tends to be chewy and rubbery. By gently pressing the paneer with clean fingers, authentic paneer will easily crumble, while fake paneer will resist and may even fall apart.
2. Iodine Tincture Test:
Another reliable method to identify real paneer is the iodine tincture test. Start by boiling a piece of paneer in water and allowing it to cool. Then, add a few drops of iodine tincture to the paneer. If the paneer turns blue, it indicates the presence of artificial additives. Genuine paneer will not change color.

Authentic paneer always has a mild and slightly sweet flavor, reflecting its natural composition. Conversely, synthetic paneer may taste sour or have an unusual aftertaste due to the presence of additives. Before purchasing or consuming paneer, take a small bite to assess its taste and quality.
4. Soybean Powder/ Arhar Dal Powder Test:
The soybean powder/arhar dal powder test offers another effective way to detect synthetic paneer. Boil a piece of paneer in water, then add soybean powder to the mixture. If the paneer changes color to light red, it indicates the presence of detergent or urea, common additives used in fake paneer production.
5. Softness Test:
Authentic paneer is known for its soft and delicate texture, making it easy to chew and enjoy. In contrast, synthetic paneer often exhibits a rubbery or tough consistency, making it difficult to consume.
