It is unusual for a cricketer from the state of Jammu and Kashmir to make it big. Getting only his 2nd outing in the Indian Premier League 2021 for Sunrisers Hyderabad, pacer Umran Malik showed a glimpse of the skill that exists in the Northern Indian state.

Seeing his son fascinate fans with his talent, the cricketer’s father couldn't be more proud.

Umran's father who is a vegetable vendor by profession, spoke of the difficulties that he and his family went through to support his son’s aspirations. With what appears to be merely the beginning of Umran's career, his father Abdul Malik hopes to see his son wear the India jersey one day.

"My son became interested in cricket when he was only three years old." He always wanted to be a professional cricketer. We were overjoyed when he was picked up to the Sunrisers Hyderabad playing XI on Sunday. We were glued to the television, and my wife and I were crying with pleasure. My son has put forth a lot of effort. We've always been there for him. "We hope that one day he will play for Team India," Abdul added.

Umran's father also revealed that the Lt. Governor congratulated him when Umran made his IPL debut for Hyderabad.

"This is no ordinary accomplishment for us. We are from a poor family background. To make a living, I sell vegetables and fruits. My son has made me extremely proud. Our happiness knows no boundaries. Lt Governor Sahib has also congratulated us. I pray to the Almighty that my son continues to excel in his profession," he said.

Umran, who took his first IPL wicket against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), was also praised by Virat Kohli. The RCB skipper called for a talent like Umran to be nurtured considering the incredible potential he has.

Umran not only took the wicket of KS Bharat to open his account against the Royal Challengers, but he also bowled the fastest delivery of the IPL 2021 season, clocking a whopping 153 kmph.
