Blenders’ Active Participation Increases CTC Dust Sales in Coonoor Tea Auctions
Blenders' active participation has generated a strong demand for overall CTC dust sales in Coonoor Tea auctions.
According to traders, strong demand from blenders has resulted in a relatively good sales percentage in sale 51. The market was mostly stable, with some signs of easiness.
The low demand was due to the holiday season, and it is expected to recover by mid-January, as has been the case in previous years.
According to Global Tea Auctioneers, the total amount offered in the dust sale was 3,39,865 kg, with 95% of that amount sold.
The higher-priced and better-quality liquors were cheaper by Rs 3 to Rs 4. The medium and plainer varieties were in high demand and sold for Rs 2 to Rs 3 more. Primary orthodox dust grades were consistently more expensive by Rs 3 to Rs 4 and more at times in line with quality.
However, in the leaf category, the primary whole leaf grades in orthodox were sometimes reduced by Rs 2 to Rs 3 in accordance with quality.
The brokens were also barely consistent, easing by Rs 2 to Rs 3. Secondary and fannings were in lower demand, with prices falling by Rs 3 to Rs 4.
Overall, there was a reasonable demand for CTC leaf sales. Only 88% of the total weight of 8,34,005 kg was sold.
The higher-priced and better liquor varieties in were Rs 1 to 2. The better medium varieties saw reasonable demand and sold fully firm to dearer by Rs 1 to 2. The mediums and plainer varieties sold firm to dearer by Rs 2 to 3.
