Mandi Updates: Wholesale Prices of Sapota Fall across Key Mandis

The wholesale prices of sapota (chikoo) fell across the benchmark markets of India, according to the data from the Agmarknet portal run by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. 

In March, the monthly average wholesale prices of sapota fell by Rs 161.33 to Rs 3,333.42 per quintal. Among all the regions, Uttar Pradesh saw the highest fall of around 18.6% to Rs 2,383 per quintal, followed by Gujarat with a 15.5% drop to Rs 1,860.

Other states and union territories where the wholesale prices slumped are Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Kerala, Delhi, Punjab, and Uttarakhand. In Uttarakhand, the prices fell by 13.9% to Rs 1,649 and in Delhi by around 8.6% to Rs 2,498. In Punjab and Haryana, the prices fell by 5.66% to Rs 2,717 and by 5.29% to Rs 3,079, respectively.

However, the wholesale prices of sapota rose in Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajasthan. In Jammu and Kashmir, the prices increased by 4.4% to Rs 5,211  per quintal, and in Rajasthan by 2.64% to Rs 2,410. 

Globally, sapota is grown in India, Pakistan, Thailand, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Vietnam. In India, sapota is grown in the kharif season in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
