Wheat Procurement: Rs 7513 Cr Transferred Directly to Farmers’ Accounts, says Chautala

To meet the requirements of the public distribution system (PDS) and other welfare schemes, the state-owned Food Corporation of India (FCI) and state agencies conduct procurement at the minimum support price.

Dushyant Chautala, Haryana's deputy chief minister, announced on Tuesday that the state government has transferred Rs 7513.62 crore to farmers' bank accounts for wheat procurement. From 1 April to 23 May, various government agencies procured 41,46,576 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat, according to Chautala, who also holds the portfolio of the food, supplies, and consumer affairs department.

He stated that the government had directed that the funds for the purchase of wheat for the Rabi-2022 crop be transferred to the farmer's bank account within 72 hours of crop procurement.

The minister stated that the state government has transferred Rs 7513.62 crore directly to farmers' bank accounts for wheat procurement.

He stated that the crop was lifted from the mandis on time and that all necessary arrangements had been made for the farmers at the mandi.

According to the deputy chief minister, 92 mandis were prepared for mustard procurement this time, while 411 mandis were prepared for wheat procurement, 11 for gramme procurement, and 25 mandis for barley procurement.

He stated that the state government had procured Rabi crops at the agreed-upon minimum support price (MSP).

Various procurement agencies purchased mustard at Rs 5,050 per quintal, wheat at Rs 2,015 per quintal, gramme at Rs 5,230 per quintal, and barley at Rs 1,635 per quintal.

Chautala stated that the state government is committed to purchasing every grain of wheat grown by farmers at MSP.
