Prevention is better than cure. When someone is ill, their body functions get weakened. It takes a lot of time to treat a disease and the person is likely to be bedridden for some time, even though proper care is provided to him.

As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), during sickness, one should eat foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals, like vitamin C, D, and zinc for a faster recovery. Eating foods that are rich in these nutrients is even essential if you have caught COVID-19 infection.

Stop Eating these 5 Foods:

For faster recovery from COVID- 19, here is a list of foods that must be avoided as these foods increases inflammation and decreases with the healing process.

1. Fried Foods:

Most of the people like the taste of fried foods. These foods are high in calories and trans- fat, so eating a lot of them can have negative effects on your health. If you have COVID symptoms, these foods can wreak havoc in your body increasing the burden on the already loaded immune system. These foods negatively affect your gut micro-biome and suppress the immune function. Fried foods also raise the level of bad cholesterol, which further increases the risk of various cardiovascular diseases.

2. Processed Packaged Foods:

If you have caught the COVID-19 infection, avoid eating those foods full of additives, high in sodium, added sugars and preservatives because these foods are known to cause inflammation. High level of inflammation in the body further increases the load on the immune system, leaving you more susceptible to diseases and illness. One should also avoid to eat potato chips and other similar packaged foods items as they contain a lot of sodium.

3. Sugary Beverages:

Added sugar also causes inflammation in the body. During these uncertain times of COVID, we should avoid taking sugary beverages while following an anti-inflammatory diet. Let’s say a big No to carbonated drinks and soda to enhance your body’s natural healing capacity.

4. Red meat:

Either you have COVID-19 or not, Red meat should not be consumed often as it is rich in saturated fat, which again causes inflammation. In spite of this, eat foods that have monounsaturated fats. Avocados, fish and olive oil are rich in omega 3 fatty acids such as salmon are rich in monounsaturated fats. For fulfilling the requirement of protein, opt for plant- based protein like beans and lentils, instead of fish.

5. Spicy foods:

If you are suffering from cold, cough or flu, it is advised to avoid taking spicy foods. This is because spicy foods can irritate your throat and this further make you cough even more. If you have congestion, take hot soup and milder drinks to clear the sinuses.
