What to Avoid During Monsoon
Alongside following a balanced diet during the rainy season, there are so many unhealthy eating habits which you should avoid in your diet. Some of them are listed below;
Avoid Eating Out
Avoid eating out at hotels, restaurants, street food stalls, or any other outside stalls. Eat fresh and healthy food cooked at home.
Green Leafy Vegetables
The green leafy vegetables should be avoided in monsoon as much as possible because of the temperature and moistness of the rainy season help in bacterial and fungal growth. Especially, spinach, cabbage, and cauliflower should not be consumed during monsoon. However, you may eat them but ensure to wash them in lukewarm water and cook them on high heat before consumption.
Deep-Fried Food
Avoid oily and deep-fried food during this season because humans' digestive system turns a little slow during monsoon. Consuming deep-fried food may lead to an upset stomach and bloating with stomach cramps.
Seafood
Seafood should be strictly avoided during monsoon. Water contamination is on a high level during this season, and fishes living in that water turns into carriers of diseases.
Mushrooms
Avoid eating mushrooms during the rainy season. Mushrooms generally grow in damp areas and during the rainy season, the danger of bacterial contaminations very high. So it's better not to consume mushrooms during monsoons.
What to Eat During Monsoon
Immunity-Boosting Herbs and spices
Increase consumption of immunity-boosting herbs and spices like turmeric, ginger, garlic, black pepper, tulsi, mint, lemongrass, etc because all these above species have antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties which help to keep diseases away from the body.
Water
Drink a lot of safe water and boil it before drinking. Don't forget that waterborne diseases are on the peak during the rainy season, so boil water before consuming it if you don’t have a purifier at home.
Fresh Vegetables
Add fresh vegetables like bottle gourd, bitter gourd, sponge gourd, ridge gourd, pointed gourd, and different types of squash and pumpkin in your daily diet during monsoon. All of these are enriched with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and dietary fiber.
Plenty of Fluids
Your body additionally needs heaps of liquids during monsoon since humidity and perspiring generally happen more in this season. Drink freshly prepared soups, broths, herbal tea like kadha, ginger tea, etc to boost your immune system.
Dry fruits and nuts
Eat dry fruits, nuts, and seeds during this season because they are packed with proteins, minerals, antioxidants, and vitamins.
