Lassi Is Available In Different Flavors

Lassi and buttermilk are both made up of curd and they both serve as traditional welcome drinks in India. However, apart from this, there aren't many similarities between lassi and buttermilk. Buttermilk is a light drink made with lots of water, a small amount of curd, and spices such as pepper, cumin, green chilies, etc. On the other hand, lassi has a creamier and thicker consistency and can be made in a variety of ways.

Both the drinks differ from one another in many ways. Let’s discuss it in detail;

Origin

Buttermilk is a popular drink of Rajasthan and Gujarat. On the other hand, lassi is a popular drink of Punjab, though both are popular throughout India.

Preparation

Buttermilk is made by separating butter from the milk, whereas lassi is made by blending yogurt with water and seasoning with sugar or salt to taste.

Flavors

Lassi comes in different flavors such as strawberry, orange, mango, etc. However, there aren't many flavors available of buttermilk. 

Consistency

The consistency of lassi is thick. On the other hand, buttermilk has more water content and has a lighter consistency.

Buttermilk Is Made With Spices

Various spices are used in the making of buttermilk such as coriander, black pepper, etc. Lassi, however, is made with sugar or salt.

Buttermilk aids in Digestion

Buttermilk is light and flavorsome, with spices such as cumin and spices and herbs such as pepper, black salt, mint, and coriander that improve digestion. All these factors combined contribute to making it an excellent drink for those who suffer from indigestion. Lassi also has a higher fat content than buttermilk.

Buttermilk In Losing Weight

For those, who are attempting to lose weight, buttermilk is the better choice. Buttermilk has a lower calorie content because the butterfat has been removed from it while preparation and more water has been added to it. In contrast, even when made with low-fat milk, some fat is always present in lassi.
