Edible fungi with a lot of nutrients, mushrooms are our favorite. But consuming mushrooms can have negative effects on your body. Here’s a list of some reactions people have experienced. There are many varieties of mushrooms available in the market, be it white mushrooms that we commonly see in shops, shiitake mushrooms- perfect to use as a filling for buns or bao, portobello, oyster, enoki, and a few more. 

You can add mushrooms to pasta, use them as a filling for wraps, or just stir fry, add your choice of sauces and enjoy, and mushrooms gel with Chinese cuisine as well. Such a magical veggie, rather fungi it is. Despite being almost everyone’s favourite, it can cause trouble for some.

Side effects of Mushrooms

Here is a list of the most common allergic reactions one gets after consuming mushrooms.

Stomach Problems:

The most common of all side effects is stomach problems like vomiting, nausea and diarrhea or generic aches. Mushrooms are basically from the family of fungi, so they can trigger diarrhea for some.

Feeling Lost:

Sometimes when you feel absentmindedness, it can be a side effect of having mushrooms. Might get in a state of hallucination. Don’t worry, there are not many instances of it. There are a wide variety of mushrooms and one such is magic mushrooms which are called wild or cultivated mushrooms. They contain psilocybin, a naturally occurring psychoactive and hallucinogenic compound.

Hallucination:

Magic mushrooms, which contain psilocybin, are ingested for their hallucinating effects. Because they are psychedelic agents, they can alter a person's thoughts, sense of time, and emotions.

Drowsy feeling:

Many feel tired and sleepy after eating mushrooms. It can make you feel low on energy if these do not suit your body.

Skin Allergies:

Eaten mushrooms, and started to feel skin itches. Don’t worry, many suffer from the same. Skin rashes and irritation are the most common ones. If it happens to you on regular basis, do eat in lesser quantities, if you cannot live without it.

Remember to not eat mushrooms that are different from the usual ones or are discolored, and prefer buying them from the market rather than just plucking them from the woods.
