COVID- 19 vaccine might induce certain mild effects in some people. However, number of people experiencing side effect are low. So, what should you do if you are having some of the symptoms like fever, body ache after getting the vaccine? In this article, we will tell you about the best food to have after getting a COVID vaccine shot. 

Foods for strengthening the Body:

Here are some foods to improve immunity and minimize the side- effects of the vaccine, as well as a few don’ts to keep in mind after taking the shot: 

1. Turmeric: 

Turmeric has attained a global reputation as an important immunity booster. This superfood also helps in releasing stress, aids digestion, has healing properties and treats inflammation. We can add turmeric to the kadhas prepared at home to be consumed once or twice a day or mix it with milk before sleeping. You can also prepare detox turmeric teas and turmeric mint chutneys at home. 

2. Onion & Garlic: 

Garlic & Onion both are good for gut health and must be made a part of the meal and cooked post the vaccination necessarily. Raw garlic contains vitamin B6, manganese, fibre, selenium, vitamin C and some amounts of calcium, copper, potassium, iron and phosphorous. It is also known to treat common cold and is high in antioxidants. 

3. Fruits: 

Fruits like Chikoo, jamun, pineapple, mango, banana, musk melon, and watermelon are fruits that are in season and can minimize the risk of getting side effects from the COVID vaccines. One must consume these fresh fruits in generous quantities and it helps in keeping the body hydrated. Fruits are best consumed as breakfast to build immunity and get going with a healthy start to the day. 

4. Green Veggies: 

Having a balanced diet is very important for a healthy body to avoid any serious side effects. Green and leafy vegetable are boost immunity and are packed with nutrition and are also good for gut health. That’s why, the post-vaccine diet must include a lot of green vegetables. They can either be cooked or consumed raw as salads. You can also drink it as a soup. The more colorful vegetables you eat, the better and healthier it would be for your health. 

5. Whole grains: 

Wholegrain foods that are high in fibre can help in strengthening immunity after the vaccine shot. Semolina which is a whole grain, quinoa, millets, brown rice, popcorn, corn wholegrain breads or chapatis, oats must be taken for increased fibre intake. Bajra, Ragi, jowar and sattu must be consumed as well. There are some Indian recipes like moong dal, multigrain dosa, medu vada, upma that includes wholegrain must be tried. 

6. Avoid processed food, sugar:

According to Medical studies, foods that are high in sugar and saturated fats can lead to anxiety, stress, and disturbed sleep. One can instead replace our sugar craving by switching to healthier options like fruits which possess natural sugar and coat them with honey. Any type of processed junk food must be avoided for some days after the vaccination.
