Skincare Tips For A Skinsafe Holi

The production of Holi hues is not something that is safe and beneficial for your skin. Here's how you can stay safe with our holi skincare tips!

Holi, while an undisputed favourite for most, is very harsh on the skin

Holi is the undisputed favourite festival for a lot of children and adults alike. And rightfully so- this festival is filled with colors and energy and people are in the mood to celebrate and have fun. It’s time to unwind and have fun with your loved ones. And while doing so, make sure to be kind to your skin as well!

 

The production of Holi hues is not something that is safe and beneficial for your skin, study reveals that these colors comprise Chemicals like mercury sulphite (red), lead oxide (black), copper sulphate (green), malachite green (green), rhodamine (bronze-red), and gentian violet. Malachite green is thought to be carcinogenic, whilst the majority of these hues can induce a variety of skin allergies (cancer-causing agent). With usage on the skin and removal of these colors from the skin, these chemicals create symptoms including rash, burning feeling, scaling, and many other dangerous skin infections and diseases.

Here are some PRE- HOLI tips for you:

  1. Sunscreen: Sunscreen will help protect your skin while you frolic in the sun and also additionally provide a barrier to your skin
  2. Using Ice Cubes: With the hot, hot March sun, using ice cubes on your skin might be a good way to help you cool down and prevent you from going dry.
  3. Almond Oil for Your Face: If you don't want to use face creams, try applying almond oil to your face instead because it has fatty acids and retinoid that can heal eczema, sunburns, and psoriasis.
  4. Oil your Body: Applying coconut oil to your body and hair will close the pores, ensuring that the holi colors do not stay on your face forever!
  5. Keep Your Ears Safe: Petroleum jelly can assist avoid stains and color deposit on sensitive skin by moisturizing the inside of your ears and your lips.
  6. Lip Balm: Don’t forget to moisturize the skin on your lips as they are quite sensitive and very prone to getting chapped and drying out.

 

POST HOLI TIPS:

  1. Moisturizer: Make sure all color is completely removed, and then refill your skin with lots of moisturizer that contains ceramide and Vitamin E, which will nourish and mend the skin and keep it from becoming raw.
  2. Take Care of Sunburns: To calm burning skin, use cool or micellar water and aloe vera gel. Avoid aggravating it further and attempt to let it alone for a day while drinking more water on that specific day.
  3. Stay away from using warm water: Avoid using warm water or abrasive items on the skin since it is crucial to treat it as gently as possible because it is prone to irritation.
  4. Avoid Over Scrub: You skin is very sensitive after exposure to all the color, dust and sweat. Make sure you don’t over scrub it and cause more damage.

Here are some homemade scrubs that can help replenish your skin:

  1. Yogurt with Multani Mitti: This recipe uses 1 Tbsp of each to exfoliate, moisturise, unclog pores, and renew the skin, giving it a healthy glow.
  2. Curd And Lemon Face Mask: Mixing diluted lemon juice with curd will thicken the epidermis, brighten the skin, and even out the skin tone.
  3. Curd and Besan Face Mask: This mask, which is made by combining 1 tablespoon of besan with 2 tablespoons of curd, will exfoliate, cleanse, and brighten the skin.
  4. Gel made of aloe: Aloe vera will heal your skin from all the irritation as you apply it straight to the skin because it is a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.
