Lawrencedale Agro Processing India (LEAF), an integrated agri-service provider based in Udhagamandalam, has announced an extension of its services by growing the number of farmers linked to 30 lakh from the existing strength of 30,000 farmers over the next three years.
In addition, a technology portal will be launched in a month or two, offering farmers access to financial, insurance and extension services.
The company works in rural areas with small and marginal farmers and helps them lower production costs and save time by reducing the time taken to access inputs and other resources.
‘We will be roping 10 lakh farmers in the next 15 months. In addition to strengthening our activities in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala, we will extend it to Palat Vijayaraghavan,’ Founder and Chief Executive Officer of LEAFF, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
‘We would bring a phygital (a combination of traditional and digital models) service distribution concept to the country's separate tribal agriculture belts. Farmers would be able to access, financial services and other services needed for farming, through a digital portal,’ he said.
As it carries out the growth programme, the company, which has a base of 200 personnel, will recruit 200 more. It would set up 30 Farmers' Support Centers, serving 10,000-15,000 farmers each.
These centers will be staffed by agronomists and individuals who will be able to help farmer’s access digital resources.
