NHPC Partners with Ocean Sun to Illuminate India's Renewable Energy Future

NHPC Limited, India's leading hydropower organization, has signed an MoU with Ocean Sun, a Norwegian floating solar technology provider. This collaboration aims to enhance renewable energy capacities and promote sustainable development in India.

NHPC Limited, India's premier organization for hydropower development, has recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ocean Sun, a leading Norwegian firm renowned for its innovative solutions in the floating solar industry. Under this agreement, NHPC and Ocean Sun will collaborate closely to showcase Ocean Sun's pioneering floating solar energy technology, leveraging photovoltaic panels mounted on hydro-elastic membranes. The strategic deployment of these panels will be identified and executed at suitable sites designated by NHPC.

This partnership highlights NHPC's steadfast commitment to sustainable development and the expansion of renewable energy capacities. NHPC, a stalwart not only in hydroelectric power generation but also in diverse renewable energy ventures encompassing solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects, continues to spearhead efforts toward a greener future.

The MoU, signed on April 29, 2024, marks a significant milestone in hybrid mode, with Mr. Shri V.R. Shrivastava, Executive Director (Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen) representing NHPC, and Mr. Kristian Tørvold, CEO of Ocean Sun, as signatories. 

Present at the ceremony were esteemed dignitaries including H.E. Ms. May-Elin Stener, the Ambassador of Norway to India, and Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary, Director (Technical) of NHPC, along with Shri Rajat Gupta, Executive Director (Strategy Business Development & Consultancy) of NHPC, who joined virtually from the Embassy of Norway, New Delhi. H.E. Dr. Acquino Vimal, the Ambassador of India to Norway, was also present remotely from Oslo, reaffirming the bilateral cooperation between India and Norway in the realm of sustainable energy initiatives.
