Christmas without a 'Christmas tree' cannot be imagined. Let me tell you that Christmas tree is a decorated tree that is generally an evergreen conifer like spruce, pine, fir or an artificial tree of similar look. You can use Christmas tree for indoor as well as outdoor decorations.

Nowadays people embellish Christmas trees in their own way; some make it colorful by putting lots of lights, small stars, hanging balls, flowers, toffee packs, tiny artificial gifts and many other things. People also decorate their house with different Christmas plants available in the market.

Unknown facts about Christmas Tree:

Fact  1. The very first decorated Christmas tree was displayed in Riga, Latvia in 1510.

Fact 2. Evergreen trees were used to celebrate the winter season even before the birth of Jesus Christ.  In fact, pagans used the branches of evergreen trees to embellish their homes during the winter solstice, thinking of the upcoming spring.

Fact 3. Artificial Christmas tree was first made in Germany in 19th century. These trees were also prepared from goose feathers that were colored in green & fixed to wire branches, which were then covered around a rod that acted as the trunk.

Fact 4. Trees used to be decked with edible decorations. The first Christmas tree in Germany were decorated with wafers, apples, gingerbread & sweets.

Fact 5. The Original Christmas trees are not always the fir trees. Different countries use different types of trees for this festival. Take for instance, in New Zealand - the ‘Pohutakawa’ tree with red flowers is used.

Fact 6. Modern and trendy Artificial Christmas trees are made up of PVC plastic. And around 80% of those are made in China.

Fact 7. Around 25 - 30 million real Christmas trees are sold in the US every year. And most of them come from the Christmas tree farms.

Fact 8. Christmas tree is said to be quite thirsty therefore even if you cut them down & placed in your living room, a Christmas tree should be treated as a cut flower. Remember that it has only been cut down & is not dead. It can drink one liter of water every day hence keep watering it.

Fact 9. Christmas trees helps in removing dust as well as pollen from the air.

Fact 10. Growing Christmas trees provides a habitat for the wildlife.
