7,214 Crore Relief Package for States Affected by Natural Calamity

The Home Ministry approved the release of ₹7,214 crore to six States and a Union Territory, affected by natural calamity like floods, drought and cyclone damage. In this regard, it has also approved giving ₹4,714 crore to the state of Maharashtra.

The Home Ministry approved the release of ₹7,214 crore to six States and a Union Territory, affected by a natural calamity like floods, drought and cyclone damage. In this regard, it has also approved giving ₹4,714 crore to the state of Maharashtra.  

In the meeting, Union Finance Minister Piyush Goel, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and senior officers of the Ministries of Home Affairs, Finance, Agriculture and NITI Aayog were present. 

According to a statement by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), a high-level committee, headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, sanctioned the additional Central assistance of ₹7,214.03 crore to six States and one Union Territory from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF). 

However, from the sanctioned amount, ₹4,714.28 crore will be given to Maharashtra (drought), ₹949.49 crore to Karnataka (drought), ₹900.4 crore to Andhra Pradesh (drought), ₹317.44 crore to Himachal Pradesh (flood and landslips), ₹191.73 crore to Uttar Pradesh (flood), ₹127.60 crore to Gujarat (drought) and ₹13.09 crore to the Union Territory of Puducherry (cyclone). 

As per the statement, the meeting was held to consider the additional Central assistance to these States and the Union Territory which were affected by floods, landslips, cloudburst, cyclone Gaja and drought during the kharif season 2018-19.
