Africa Food Safety Summit will be held from July 20 to 22 at the Emara Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. The African Development Bank (AfDB), a multilateral development finance institution headquartered in Cote d'Ivoire, has backed the 2022 Africa Food Safety Summit as the event's main sponsor as part of its mission to promote agro-industry development.
AfDB, which was founded in the 1960s, promotes public and private investment in projects and programmes that aim to reduce poverty and improve living conditions in African countries.
The Bank Group's overall vision for Agriculture and Rural Development is to become Africa's leading development finance institution, committed to assisting African regional member countries in their poverty-reduction efforts.
It has established approximately 23 field and country offices across the continent in recent years, as part of its decentralization policy aimed at bringing its operations closer to its beneficiaries. There are 81 member states, with 54 in Africa designated as Regional Member Countries.
Dr. Damian Ihedioha, Manager of the Agribusiness Division, Agriculture and Agro-industry Department, will cut the ribbon at the Summit on behalf of the Bank.
The AfDB's Chief Agro-Industry Officer, Aminata Sow, will moderate a panel discussion on "Food Safety Infrastructure and Standards Development to Enhance Trade in Africa." The 2022 Africa Food Safety Summit, co-hosted by the African Development Bank (AfDB), is Africa's premier and largest international conference and exhibition on food safety, quality management, and conformity.
The Summit brings together regional and global experts and stakeholders to discuss the latest trends in science and technology, as well as regulations, standards, and compliance, as well as operations and the long-term adoption of food safety practices and technologies throughout Africa's agriculture and food value chain.
The Summit, which will be held in both physical and virtual formats, aims to provide a platform for improving quality, food safety, and conformity in Africa and the region's rapidly growing food and agriculture sector, thereby enhancing trade in local, regional, and global markets.
The Summit will be held in conjunction with the AFMASS Youth Summit in 2022, which is a pan-African mentorship, networking, and capacity-building platform for university students, young professionals, and aspiring start-up entrepreneurs in Africa's food and agriculture sector.
