Alert! Cyclone 'Sitrang' to Form Over Bay of Bengal This Week, Check Full Weather Update Here

The cyclonic circulation that formed over the south Andaman Sea and its surroundings early this week has now shifted to the north Andaman Sea and its surroundings, according to a statement from the IMD's Bhubaneswar Center.

The Met office issued a warning that a low-pressure region is anticipated to form over the southeast and nearby east-central Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours.

The system is most expected to cross over west-northwestward by the morning of October 22 across the center of the Bay of Bengal and then concentrate into a depression.

It was anticipated by the Met department that it will eventually develop into a cyclonic storm over the western Bay of Bengal.

It is important to mention that cyclone Sitrang got its name from Thailand. As per the details, it is a Thai surname. The name is one of 169 storms that the India Meteorological Department has listed in 2020.

Cyclone Asani, which formed in the Bay of Bengal early in May of this year, will be followed by cyclone Sitrang. This storm will be the second one of 2022.

IMD assigns names to the cyclones developing across the northern Indian Ocean, including the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The IMD issues alerts regarding tropical cyclones and storm surges to thirteen members: Bangladesh, India, Iran, Maldives, Myanmar, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

State-wise Weather Update

• On October 19, 2022, there is a good chance of widespread light to moderate rainfall with a few isolated heavy rain showers over Madhya Maharashtra and the Konkan.

• The majority of Northwest and Central India is anticipated to see dry weather.

• During the 19th to 21st of October 2022, widespread light to moderate rainfall with a few isolated heavy rainfall is highly possible over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

• Over the next three days, there will be occasional light rain or snowfall in the Western Himalayan Region.

• With isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms/lightning highly likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and Lakshadweep, there will likely be moderate to widespread rainfall.

• IMD also forecasted widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Kerala till Saturday.
