Amit Shah, Union Home and Cooperation Minister stated on Sunday that the government intends to issue globally valid certification to organic farmers so that they can export their products.

He also stated that the government plans to establish a national university for cooperative management courses in the near future. Shah was speaking at the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM) convocation ceremony in Pune.

“There is a lot of interest in organic farming these days, and more and more farmers are switching to it.” However, there is no product certification or market chain in place. “The Cooperation Department has decided that with the help of Amul's successful model, we will provide farmers with a globally valid certificate for land and produce,” Shah said.

He stated that the government will take steps to ensure that the organic produce market chain is in place and that farmers receive the appropriate price for their produce.

Shah stated that the government intends to computerize Primary Agricultural Societies (PAS), which will be linked to District Central Banks, which will be linked to NABARD.

According to the Minister, the union government is planning a national university for cooperatives, and each state will have a college affiliated with this university.

Importance of Organic Farming:

Organic farming works in the harmony with nature rather than against it. This involves using techniques to achieve good crop yields without harming the natural environment or the people who live and work in it.

Organic agriculture combines traditions, innovation & science to help the environment and promote fair relationships and good quality of life for everyone. Rather than using chemical materials it uses biological materials and maintains ecological balance thereby minimizing pollution & wastage.
