Shivraj Singh Chouhan said crops, including flowers and turmeric, have been damaged in Andhra Pradesh due to heavy rains. About 2 lakh farmers have been affected and the initial estimate of crop damage is 1.8 lakh hectares.
Union Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and conducted an aerial survey of Budameru, catchment and submerged areas in the city, Jakkampudi Milk Factory, Kandrika, Ajit Singh Nagar and Ambapuram in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. He also met the common people, farmer brothers and sisters affected by the floods and discussed with them. During this, Chouhan said that the Central and State Government are working to normalize the situation and providing relief to the people.
Chouhan praised Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and the state government for their relentless efforts during unprecedented heavy rains. He highlighted that despite challenging conditions, essentials like food, water, and milk are being provided to affected residents.
He emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concern for the flood situation and assured that the Central government will fully support the state in addressing both immediate needs and long-term recovery. The damage, particularly to crops and household goods, is extensive, but efforts to restore normalcy are underway. Chouhan noted that around 2 lakh farmers have been affected, with an initial estimate of 1.8 lakh hectares of crop damage, including flowers and turmeric. An NDRF team has been deployed to assess the situation.
After Andhra Pradesh, Chouhan is visiting Telangana’s flood-hit Khammam village today to meet the affected people and review the damage. The Central government is committed to providing all possible assistance.
