Andhra Government issues notice on Glyphosate ban
Glyphosate is a commonly used herbicide that controls broadleaf weeds and grasses. It has long been in controversies for the damage it causes to human beings. Its consumption in food cycle may lead to various forms of body ailments linked to carcinogenicity, endocrine disruption, kidney and liver damage, reproductive health problems, neurological effects etc.

When a farmer sprays Glyphosate in his crops, its remains are left behind, making its way into the food chain as all us consume it in some quantity which causes various diseases specially cancer. Many efforts have been going on since long for its ban and many NGO’s and social groups have been trying to enforce a law against it.

Finally the government of Andhra Pradesh has issued a notification on imposition of restrictions on usage of Glyphosate formulations in the state. The district JDAs are instructed to ensure the following:
1. All the pesticides dealers in the District shall be instructed not to sell all Glyphosate formulations/concentration with immediate effect.
2. Take necessary steps for removal of entries for Glyphosate from the licenses issued in the Districts.
3. Stop sale of Glyphosate formulations at all points and to return the entire stock to the concerned companies.
