Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria emphasized the crucial role of graduates from Assam Agricultural University (AAU) in innovating nutritious food solutions to meet the needs of the burgeoning population. Speaking at the university's 23rd convocation in Jorhat, Governor Kataria underscored the challenge of producing nutritious food sustainably, without burdening the environment and biodiversity.

Governor Kataria urged the graduate fraternity to view the challenge of nourishing a growing population as an opportunity for innovation and collaboration. He emphasized the importance of translating agricultural knowledge into practical solutions, emphasizing the need for graduates to work alongside farming communities for the sector's development.

Contributions of Assam Agricultural University (AAU)

Acknowledging the significant contributions of Assam Agricultural University to agriculture education and research, Governor Kataria commended the university's efforts in infrastructure development and human resource enhancement. These efforts, he noted, are pivotal in advancing agricultural development in the state.

Addressing the graduates directly, Governor Kataria highlighted the vast potential for them to support farmers through their careers in agriculture. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning and staying updated on the latest innovations to maximize opportunities in the field.

India's Progress in Food Security

Governor Kataria celebrated India's transformation from a 'food crisis country' to a 'food grain exporting country,' attributing this success to the collective efforts of policymakers, agricultural scientists, and farmers. He urged graduates to tackle pressing issues such as diminishing agricultural land, declining groundwater levels, and soil fertility degradation.

Governor Kataria reiterated the government's commitment to supporting farmers through various schemes and programs. These initiatives aim to enhance financial security, skill development, market access, and promote sustainable farming practices for improved livelihoods.

The convocation witnessed the conferring of degrees upon 1,500 students, symbolizing the culmination of their academic journey and their readiness to contribute to the agricultural sector's growth and sustainability.
