Bank holidays in September: Apart from 6 weekend holidays, banks across the country will remain closed for 7 days in the month of September

People are advised to confirm the holiday date in their local states when scheduling bank-related tasks.

In the month of September, banks all around the nation will be closed for a total of seven days. However, these 7 days do not include the weekend holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays and every Sunday.  It may be noted that the banks in India follow the gazetted holidays. Some banks celebrate regional festivals and holidays, while all banks are closed on public holidays.

Holidays are divided into the following categories by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI):

  • Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act

  • Holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday

  • Banks Closing of Accounts

People are advised to confirm the holiday date in their local states when scheduling bank-related tasks. Here is a list of all the days covered under the Negotiable Instruments Act of the RBI.

Bank holidays in September 2022

September 1: 2nd day of Ganesh Chaturthi (Panaji)

September 6: Karma Puja (Ranchi)

September 7: First Onam (Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram)

September 8: Thiruvonam (Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram)

September 9: Indrajatra (Gangtok)

September 10: Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day (Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram)

September 26: Navratri Sthapna/Mera Chaoren Houba of Lainingthou Sanamahi (Jaipur, Imphal)

Weekend holidays in September

September 4: First Sunday

September 10: Second Saturday

September 11: Second Sunday

September 18: Third Sunday

September 24: Fourth Saturday

September 25: Fourth Sunday

In August 2022, Indian lenders were closed for a total of 19 days. Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays, are included in these 19 days. August included a number of state-specific festivals, including Raksha Bandhan, Muharram, Independence Day, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Janmashtami. It may be noted that the banks remain open on the first and third Saturdays every month.
