Janmashtami 2022: Know Date, Shubh Muhurat, Puja Vidhi & Significance of This Hindu Festival

The nation celebrates Janmashtami with a lot of excitement, notably at Vrindavan, Barsana, Mathura, and Dwarka. In celebration of the birth of God, special festivities are planned in the temples of Lord Krishna, and followers pray until the middle of the night.

As per astrology, Lord Krishna was born on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the Bhadrapada month. According to legend, the moon was in Taurus at the time, the sun was in Leo, and the Rohini constellation was visible. Therefore, people should observe the fast of Janmashtami on the same day when it is Ashtami Tithi at the night.

Other names for Janmashtami are Gokulashtami and Krishna Janmashtami. According to reports, Janmashtami will be observed this year on August 18 and 19.

Janmashtami 2022: Puja Vidhi

  • Get up early on Janmashtami, take a bath, and observe fast the entire day.

  • After that, bathe the idol of Lord Krishna with Gangajal and milk.

  • Then clothe him in new clothes and outfit him with jewelry such as a kundal, flute, Vaijayanti garland, Tulsi Dal, and a crown made of a peacock.

  • Put flower garlands on the Lord Krishna swing.

  • After that, worship Lord Krishna and light incense lamps while offering him fruits, flowers, makhana, butter and sugar (Makhan Mishri), sweets, and other items

  • After this, worship Shri Krishna at midnight, swing him on a swing, and do aarti. 

  • After the worship, give everyone prasad.

Significance of Janmashtami

The Hindu religion observes Janmashtami as a major holiday. One of Lord Vishnu's most powerful human incarnations, according to tradition, is Shri Krishna. One such god in Hindu mythology whose birth and death have been extensively written about is Lord Krishna. People have been worshiping Shri Krishna as the divine son ever since he was born on earth in human form.
