Online festive sales: Flipkart has recently said that it will help in creating over 70,000 direct jobs in the run-up for its upcoming Big Billion Days sale. These direct jobs will be in addition to lakhs of indirect seasonal employment opportunities which the company expects the festive sale event to make.

The online sales which have been usually scheduled closer to Navratri, run for 5-6 days. The direct job roles will be accommodated across Flipkart’s supply chain. It will include delivery executives, pickers, packers & sorters. Adding to it, the indirect jobs will be generated at Flipkart’s seller partner locations and kiranas.

Flipkart said in a statement that “This will be further supplemented by job creation in ancillary industries which includes vendor locations and freight partners, as the entire ecosystem scales up for the festive season.”

The company has partnered with over 50,000 kiranas so as to help deliver packages in far-flung villages & remote areas. The understanding is that the kiranas are well-acquainted with the nook and corner of towns and villages. They can aid in faster and accurate delivery of goods.

It is to be noted that E-commerce companies like Flipkart and Amazon have been expanding their capacities and recruiting fresh staff so as to order volumes increased manifold on the back of most consumers shifting to online platforms.

Amazon India hired close to 70,000 temporary staff across delivery, fulfillment, and customer service departments, earlier this year. Amazon India stated, “We will continue to create thousands of additional opportunities across the network to support customer demand across the country this upcoming festive season, so customers can stay and stay safe.”

Flipkart said, “The expansion and strengthening of the supply chain will help to create a robust system to enable millions of new e-commerce users to shop online seamlessly.”
